Disney: "Copycats" and "Thieves"

In all honesty I could have probably done several posts on the subject copyright, digital piracy, intellectual property rights and so on. But since my last post was a bit TLDR in length (meaning Too Long Didn't Read for those who aren't up on internet slang terms), I have decided to make the next one short 'n' fun.

Look away Disney fans, I'm about to ruin your childhood.

Disney's reuse of animation:

and then... Disney accused of stealing their concept for The Lion King:

Excuse me while I curl up into the fetal position and lament the loss of my childhood.

  2. Seriously! I feel like my whole childhood is now a reflection of lies and theft. it is amazing that something so significant in the lives of so many children has just been stolen from others. Disney has been considered to have such creative 'genius' but now it just seems to be a waste when the credit really belongs to others.

I also did not know that Disney was one of the 5 major corporations that owns the media in the world (learned that from today's lecture).

It makes you wonder, if anyone author or their content is actually original anymore.

  3. The thing now is that they own so much of the world that they probably wont be stealing most of their ideas. They already own them. Good finds anyway i really enjoyed them.

  4. It's crazy to think that such enormous companies with such large influence on art & fantasy have actually taken their ideas straight from other sources. That being said though, its not like Disney are using their ideas for bad.. Their movies still inspire global audiences today. Personally I think that's what matters: the inspiration. Similar to how Daft Punk actually stole a majority of their popular songs from 1970's bands, but their modern inspiration is still present.

  5. well that was fun short and sweet :P
i dont think your videos ruined my childhood i am sorry. The annoying thing i find with 'Copycat' and intellectual property rights is that it seems to be a battle between big corporations... it is just annoying the Disney has once again not been original in concept, that they have had to borrow again. But when small business or an individual manipulates or adapts texts in many cases we welcome them.

  6. Like you, i went looking for other "rip-offs" of characters i grew up with. I was shocked with what i found. X-Men, Batman, Superman and The Lion King were are adapted from other sources. While i was disappointed at first, i came to the conclusion that i didn't really care. The characters and stories i grew up with are way better than the characters and stories they were based on.

But I'm with Aiden - the characters and stories are way better - even if they are copied...
